Founded on a deep love for the sea and care for coastal communities, the foundation is committed to restoring damaged coral reef ecosystems and empowering local communities to participate in preserving their marine environment.

Background and Vision:

The Banyumilir Foundation was born from the awareness of the alarming condition of Indonesia’s coral reefs. The degradation of this ecosystem not only threatens marine biodiversity but also the livelihoods of coastal communities that depend on marine resources. With the vision, “Healthy seas, prosperous us,” the foundation is determined to be an agent of change in coral reef conservation efforts.

he foundation understands that local community involvement is key to conservation success. Therefore, they actively provide marine education and literacy to coastal communities.

This education program includes:

  • Counseling and training on sustainable fishing practices.
  • Workshops on the importance of maintaining marine cleanliness and reducing plastic use.
  • Environmental education for school children, with activities such as field trips to the beach and snorkeling to learn about coral reefs.
  • Introduction to the impacts of climate change on coral reef ecosystems. By increasing local community understanding, the Banyumilir Foundation hopes to build collective awareness to preserve the marine environment.

In addition to education, the foundation also takes concrete actions to restore damaged coral reefs.

Coral reef rehabilitation activities include:

  • Coral transplantation: Moving healthy coral fragments to damaged areas to accelerate recovery.
